TMDB - KODI workarounds to TMDB shortcomings

Hi, I've looked, but it turns out that there are no solutions. I opened myself already a question on how to "re-combine" split episodes (multi-part epsidoses named a/b). Now I get the next shortcoming with collection, where TMDB moderators disqualify and delete collections, like German TV fairy tale series "Sechs auf einen Streich",
A German thread on TMDB shows the problem. TMDB and it's moderators are extremely restrictive and do not simplify life, so it seems up to Kodi to do something about it?

collection.col
My idea would be an improvement to the library import, allowing to merge information sources in a combination with certain overrides. Similar to the simplified nfo-files offering to link a specific TMDB-dataset (as I happen to use a lot to make their naming recognizable with my file naming and the language. I have movies and series in German, English and Russian, with one or more audio-streams, naming in Latin and Cyrillic. Then we come to series like "Ice Age", which i name (1) to (5) with i.e. (3a) for "Coole Bescherung" (Ice Age: A Mammoth Christmas). This collection has also been deleted by the TMDB mods.
I could imagine an addition file iceage.col consisting of the collection files in the collection (not the file name) order, creating a collection from those movies. Would be best if text files, as many users are simply overwhelmed if asked to understand XML. Or an easy, specialized XML structure consisting of file name, "episode" in the collection and TMDB-link? I don't know how it can be done, but it might be that at the end of the import or update, Kodi applies those files to create the collection? That would also allow to add an "iceage.jpg" for the collection poster? Another option would be a [filename].col with each movie, naming the collection name and "episode".

Remerge split series
The second workaround I mentioned in the above mentioned question I posted, merging split seasons back together, using an info file with not one, but both/multiple TMDB-URLs, then merging the plots of both files into one (separated with a line-break).

Refresh single movie
While I find the problems with TMDB aplenty, it would be very nice to refresh, though I believe this requires a trigger to tell TMDB to not use the cached data, but reload from the database itself. Given how I experience TMDB moderators, I think that's a problem. But currently, once imported, the data is not being refreshed, except following a complete reset of the library. It would be helpful to have a trigger to update a specific library.
I do not understand yet why, but my kids library is often filled with English content, despite my setting of all information to German. Quite some files that are not found are (incorrect) linked to some similar named movie. To refresh those, I also must add the nfo-file and then disconnect the library to delete it to do a refresh.

Kodi "mixed" XML
A special "simplified" nfo-file would be also an idea, to tell Kodi the link to the TMDB file(s), but then also the "overrides" or adds information for the file. Without everything that is in the TMDB dataset, but link to that.
While I learned to work with XML some years ago, I don't do it on "daily basis". And I would not want to create the basic information by hand if I could instead use TMDB.

Export single movie XML
Export can only done on library level, it would be helpful to export also just a single movie - this way, it generates only the one fileset that needs attention. Aside that it would be faster.

Related thoughts
While I am not a programmer, I would prefer a simple solution, but as it would be part of library updating, I doubt an "add-on" would be possible? I've looked, but could not find either solution or add-on. Any referral to the right point where to find solutions to my problems sure would be appreciated. Side note: My movie and series library, also thanks to MediathekView is several Terrabyte and thousands of movies and episodes. I would not want to edit manual NFO-files locally, but prefer to make use of TMDB, for the sake of other users facing the same problem. That is what scraping is all about, isn't it? But with TMDB being rather "bureaucratic" and causing structural problems as these and maybe others, a Kodi-workaround would improve usability (and such application) of Kodi. Without, other users will have the same problems and those kept me from using Kodi for very long (using UMS/VLC).

Dirilis : Ertugrul  /  Resurrection : Ertugrul  NFO files

Hi Everyone ,

There is currently no listing for the Netflix version of the TV Show at TheMovieDB and TVDB.
Netflix version has the shorter episodes (45-50 Min ) & therefore Longer Episode counts  Esp season 2 & Season 5.

I added the Turkish show to my kodi library. As there are no netflix version show listings Re seasons:  Episodes hence I did it myself.
what I have done is a tradeoff.
I scraped the epiodes available via tvdb , but then using ember media manager I created simple nfo's for the episodes that are NOT listed on tvdb.
So now I have ALL the episodes scraped in Kodi library.
But there are the "not on tvdb list" episodes where the nfo is just simple , basic & threadbare i.e. not having title of episodes , description  etc etc etc .
I made cleararts / logo / Show theme myself & I understand that these might not be Fanart.tv standard's but hey these work for me.
There were some episodes (season 2) where I started off making "Resurrection : Ertugrul" nfo's like Netflix but gave it up.If anyone wshes to use that template & extend & make further nfo's & share in this thread then please be my guest.

The downloadable 7-zip file includes the following...
  • TV Show and 5 Season folders
  • NFO Files for each episode and the TV Show
  • Artwork for the TV Show, Seasons, episodes including theme.
As per Netflix version , the Show is ;
  • Season 1 :   76 Episodes
  • Season 2 :   103 Epiosdes
  • Season 3 :    91 Episodes
  • Season 4 :    90 Episdoes
  • Season 5 :    88 Episodes
HOW to USE :
  • Extract the 7-zip files into your Kodi TV Show Source folder
  • Add your episode video files and rename them to match the naming of the nfo files.
  • Scan the show into your TV Show library.
  • Bob's your Uncle   Wink

Cheers

Local NFO files - a question

Hi there

Apologies if this is the wrong location - but I'm trying to clarify whether what I'm trying to do is actually possible.

I have a PVR back-end that constantly records 5 TV stations, and creates day folders, with channel sub folders, and then these contain all the shows for that channel that day. The idea is to record all the shows constantly for a rolling 14/28 day period, so I always have every show I may have missed recorded in off-air quality (and can copy it away for long-term storage if I want to keep it). This is working OK so far.

I also have a post-record script that also creates a .NFO file for each recording, and this .nfo file is deleted along with the .ts file after the 14/28 day period.

The file structure is :

2020-06-30 (Day folder)
--BBC ONE HD (Channel folder)
--1300.BBC News at One.ts (Show file)
--1300.BBC News at One.nfo (Metadata for show file in what I thought was Kodi .nfo format)
  --1330.This is BBC One HD.ts
  --1330.This is BBC One HD.nfo

etc.

The .nfo files contain approx the following :

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes" ?>
<tvshow>
    <title>BBC News at One</title>
    <plot>2020.06.30 13:00 BBC ONE HD
The One O'Clock News from The BBC [HD][S]</plot>
    <playcount>0</playcount>
</tvshow>

Is there any way of getting these .nfo files - or similar - to associate with the .ts files, so that as I navigate around the files in Kodi, I see the <plot> metadata appear alongside the file details ?  Is there another route to doing this ?

I'm trying to avoid all my Kodi clients having to access a PVR client.

Create movie library with gdrive addon/scrapers/nfo?

Hi, Just wondering if someone can help or point me in the right direction.

The goal is to create a movie library, which has its own meta info/ thumbnails which can be transferable across my devices without having to manually customise anything per device.

I have to gdrive app installed on tablet/firesticks/computer. On my computer (where i have gdrive mounted with rclone) i can point kodi to the mounted folder and it can scan for meta info. When i access that through kodi>video/media/sources and click into the directory it looks perfect but i can't achieve that on any other device.

Can someone explain how i could achieve something like this? Please bare in mind that i have barely any experience with kodi but i am moving from plex to kodi simply because of how intensive plex can be on bandwidth and the server. I have posted this same question on the reddit page but don't seem to get much of a response.

If thats not an option is there a way i can manually add thumbnails/movie information to the directories so whichever device opens kodi would automatically populate that information?

No Information Found Error post-Kodi 18 release

Since the release of Kodi 18 I have been using the latest stable versions on my android tv, SHIELD TV, and Xbox One.  Regardless of which platform I use, I am seeing the "No information found" error often (about 30-50% of my items) when scanning using any of the tMDB scrapers or Universal Movie Scraper.  The app is also failing to scan in new episodes when I add them, forcing me to manually add those each time.  Because of the no information found error, I can't even manually scan in movies.  These are files that worked fine before Kodi 18, so I know that the files aren't the problem.  Is there something I need to change in the app, a different version I should use, or does this need to be submitted to the developers of the scrapers/Kodi?

Carriage Return

Hi everybody,

For my resume I take data from TMDB.

I've spot a problem when there is a Carriage Return in the resume.

Example : Mylène Farmer: Mylenium Tour (2000) (French Version)
On the Website there is some carriage return :
Synopsis
'1. Mylenim'
"2. L'Amour nassant"
'3. L'âme-stram-gram'
4. Beyond my controlR
5. Rêver

But on kodi, Carriage return were replace by the code  :
Synopsis
'1. Mylenim'\r "2. L'Amour nassant"\r '3. L'âme-stram-gram'\r 4. Beyond my controlR\r 5. Rêver ….

Did you know if there is a solution to avoid that?

Best Regards.

Movie/TV artwork and metadata not showing or incorrect

Hi,

I upgraded Kodi from version 17.4 to 18.5 earlier this year.  Since the upgrade all the artwork/metadata for movies & TV shows have either disappeared or a few have been incorrectly downloaded by Kodi.  Recently I discovered the problem seems to be Kodi somehow has found some local information (which is incorrect, and I don't know where Kodi got it from) and hence does not automatically refresh the artwork/metadata from the Internet.  I can fix this by individually going into each movie, manually force a refresh from the Internet so that the correct artwork/metadata is downloaded from the Internet.  The problem is that I have hundreds of movies and this manual method will take a long time to complete.  Is there a way to automatically force Kodi to refresh all the artwork/metadata from the Internet for all movies & TV shows?  I have tried Update Library but this does not work.

Thanks.

Custom Actor fanart

Hi I am planning to configure kodi on a friend's device, and that person happens to be an actor. I was thinking about surprising her by having the box boot up to her fanart as backgrounds globally. Now I know how to configure my Kodi skin (Nox) screens to randomly display multiple images from a folder as backgrounds, but any tips as to how to get the fanart automatically into the folder in the first place?

So I would basically like to have a folder somewhere on the device and have kodi download as much fanart as possible of her/ her movies and keep adding to it as they keep releasing. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Media Flags for New Dolby Logo

I may be alone in this but I would love to get updated png media flags for the Dolby codecs using their new logo. I already have one for Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision (see below) because those already exist on the internet but I'd love ones in the same style for Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby TrueHD.

A way to rapidly rename folders/files to match pattern.

I've read through the wiki and have browsed my different shows on TMDB and found the names/patterns.  However during this process, I spent several hours messing with Powershell tutorials but none of them were specific and I figured there had to be something here for renaming a folder's content to coincidence with the database's metadata pattern.

My problem is though, to rename the shows, I need to tell the script I'm running WHICH shows happen to be episode 1, and so on, so it can rename them to the appropriate pattern sequentially.  I tried running a script I ran made for Kodi to do this but it was a few years old and I didn't have good luck.  Just checking to see if there is an easier way.

TVdb.com charging for API calls?

I use tiny media manager for scraping data for TV shows and as of a week or so ago I noticed that they were only being renamed. When i looked further I noticed that the API I use for tvdb.com was depreciated and individuals are no longer allowed to use API calls and it's for a per project basis....is this true? Am I misunderstanding something? I mean...wtf? charging for an API call?

Transferring metadata to offline pc

Hi, I'm looking for the best way to get metadata and artwork and everything onto a pc with no internet.

I've got Kodi with internet at my house and kodi without internet at my dad's house. I'm going to use an external HDD to transfer my media collection at bit at time whenever I visit his house.

Is there an easy way to transfer the metadata from the Kodi that has internet?

If I were to write a script to just copy all the relevant files over, would Kodi know how to use them if it hadn't found them itself?

advancedsettings.xml imageres resets automatically to 1080

Greetings, pretty much topic. I have a lot of poster art stored locally in high resolutions and tried to circumvent downscaling via advancedsettings.xml and typed it as

<advancedsettings>
  <imageres>1080</imageres>
  <fanartres>1080</fanartres>
</advancedsettings>

Running Kodi 18.8 on a windows 10. I'm very much a noob with stuff like this so I wouldn't even be sure if I made the xml file correctly if not for the fact that it resets so I suppose it's technically correct and in the right place. But what keeps resetting the value?

Odd behaviour with Episode numbering

It seems Kodi is not recognising an episode number correctly on one TV show I have.

Bluey (2018) - 2x28 - Seesaw - WEBDL720.mkv is scraping into my library as 'Bluey - 2x29' (episode name sometimes is Seesaw, sometimes is 'Movies', which is the real ep 29 name).
TVDB seems correct, but something odd in the Log file suggests Kodi is recognising the file as episode 29, not 28... any ideas?

Fanart from TMDB only shows "No Language" Backdrops

$

I've noticed that when I add or refresh a movie that if the Fanart from TheMovieDB has a language set it will not be selectable as FanArt in Kodi.  The only FanArt I can select is if the language is set to No Language.

For example the backdrops for this movie
https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/451289-.../backdrops?

There is 1 English backdrop, and 2 No Language backdrops (I added the no language ones)

When this movie is added into Kodi the English Backdrop will not appear in FanArt, only the "No Language" backdrops appear as fanart.  Is this a bug in Kodi, or is it that the TMDB API is not returning the backdrop set to English?
